In Cohen’s thriller, two aviation experts must act fast when malfunctioning planes begin putting lives at risk. On TwinStar flight 721, the woman in seat 2A suddenly has her tablet taken over by a flight simulator. Quickly deducing that the simulator has given her control of the plane, she carefully hands it over to the pilot. But the flight ends in a catastrophic crash with no survivors. To investigate what went wrong, G.W. Canyon, the founder of AeroSoft and creator of the flight simulator AeroSim II, is brought in. His working partner is Allison Tobias, the director of on-board systems for TwinStar. Surrounding them is an ensemble of characters, from Allison’s best friend Connie to Peter Appleton, the chairman of TwinStar’s board, each with their own agenda. As G.W. and Allison work together, their nonprofessional relationship begins to evolve into something romantic. Meanwhile, the two must unravel the mystery behind what’s causing planes to malfunction, racing against the clock to ensure no more fatalities occur.

G.W. is an effective, multifaceted lead who forms a balanced partnership with Allison, and they both contribute their expertise. The novel itself is well written, too. The mystery element is almost always compelling, the romance is nuanced and believable, and the stakes are high. With its consistently tense atmosphere and brisk pace, this novel will have readers eagerly anticipating the next installment.
